In 1930, the Nigeria police force was formed. That was during the colonial era. As at today, there are 36 commands which are currently spread across different states of the nation. Also we have these 36 commands grouped into12 different zones which are controlled that do have 7 different administrative organs with over 2,000 police stations across the country. The reasons for these plenteous police stations, is actually to ensure that they can be reached by the ordinary man on the street.

The duties of the Nigeria police force is not peculiar to Nigeria alone. It is a universal standard and trust me, even if we may not appreciate what they do, these men have sacrificed so much to keeping the society safe from criminals and hoodlums. Among their duty, is the responsibility to enforce the law in Nigeria and are being paid with tax payers money. From the last updated news we had, the Nigeria Police Force have a total number of 371,800 men and able bodied officers which have been shared to work and function in the various departments of the Nigerian Police.

Last year, we where told by the Nigerian federal government that they would increase the the current number of the force officers to 650,000 a move we have yet to see materialise.

Below are the various arms of the Nigeria Police Force. These arms do determine how much each and every police officer is paid.
